September 30 is annually recognized as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day, acknowledging the residential school system and the legacy it left behind. The day serves as a reminder to reflect on what reconciliation means, commit to learning about Indigenous history and culture and how to support Survivors on their healing journey each and every day.
The Tiny Moccasin Night Light, created by Millside Ceramics from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, is in honour of the Indigenous children that never made it home from residential schools. The feather is for the Eagle to carry the prayers; the tear drops represent the pain children and families endured; the orange represents the children’s personal clothing that was taken away and replaced by uniforms, and a symbol of lost culture and individuality. The light is intended to light the way to freedom for the innocent children’s souls. A portion of the proceeds will be donated by Millside Ceramics to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
The remainder of the proceeds will be donated by ATCO to:
